Many times we accidentally delete the files from the computer using shift+delete and later we find that an important file has been deleted. But you can recover the deleted file to a specific location using a freeware utility.
A deleted file is essentially an area on disk designated as free and ready to accept data (such as contents of some other file). Luckily, unless the area has already been overwritten, it still holds the contents of the deleted file. Due to this fact it is possible to undelete files.
1. Start FreeUndelete.
2. Select drive where the deleted files are located.
3. Press Scan button to scan the partition for all deleted files stored there.
4. After scan routine is complete select the deleted file(s) to be recovered. If you want to select the multiple files then select the file name with Ctrl key pressed.
5. Specify where the recovered file(s) should be stored. The file path is to be specified in the “Undelete selected file(s) to:” field. Make sure that you do not specify the same location for both deleted and recovered files, as this could overwrite the deleted files completely and make them inaccessible for recovery procedure.
6. Press Undelete button and wait for the recovery procedure is complete.Important Note-
Minimize (and whenever possible, stop) any activity on the disk you are going to undelete files from! Remember that writing to that disk can damage the contents of the deleted files. Examples of disastrous activity include: copying files to the disk, installing programs there or running programs that use the disk as their swap media.
Useful Tip-
It happens often that the only hard drive in the system is C: and it is the drive where the files to undelete are located. In this case it is recommended to use removable media, such as flash drives as a destination place.
