Open docx, pptx, xlsx files using Microsoft Plugin – Microsoft Open XML Converter

If you have received MS Office document file in docx format then you cannot open the file if you have MS Office 2003 installed into your machine because MS Office 2007 are XML based. The files created or edited in MS Office 2007 have a file extension of xlsx instead of xls. You cannot open xlsx file using previous version of MS Office. You need to download the compatibility pack for that. Make sure you have licensed Microsoft Office installed.

You can download the plugin via Microsoft WebSite. The compatibility pack is about 28MB in size.

After downloading the exe file. Run it. To open the xlsx file, just double click it or right click on the file and open with ‘Microsoft Open XML Converter’. Same holds good for pptx (ppt) and docx (doc) type of MS Office documents.
