iPhone SDK 3.1 beta 2 and iPhone OS 3.1 beta 2 Released

iPhone OS 3.1 Beta 2 has been released and is available for download. Navigate to the Apple Developers Central to download and try iPhone 3.1 beta 2.The second beta has been released to developers with some new features along with bug fixes to both Xcode and various parts of the iPhone software.

1. Developers can now connect their iPhone or iPod Touch device over WiFi, making USB port free that can be used for other purpose by developers. WiFi connection supports all the same features a developer would get when tethered. But Apple advice to use USB port instead Wifi because it is faster and draws less power from the device as compared using WiFi.
2. Gizmodo reports that the new SDK will allow developers to connect their iPhones to a Mac running Xcode over Wi-Fi using Instruments for debugging. They point out this is useful whenever the dock connector needs to be used for another reason (Tethering? Development and testing of Tom Tom like hardware add-ons?).
3. TUAW reports that the IPCC tethering and MMS hacks we all enjoyed on iPhone OS 3.0 and 3.1 beta 1 no longer work under beta 2.
4. Fixed: iPod list views on music videos and audio books.

If you are using an unlocked iPhone 3G or iPhone 3GS (unlocked via ultrasn0w and purplesn0w), make sure not to go for iPhone OS 3.1 Beta 2 update else it will lock your iPhone by upgrading your baseband permanently.
