CSV File Splitter – Divide large CSV file into multiple files of smaller size

A Comma separated values (CSV) file is a data file that is used to store the data in a table form in a structured way. Each line in the CSV file corresponds to a row in the table. Within a line, fields are separated by commas, each field belonging to one table column. CSV files are often used while data migration. For example, csv files are used in populating the data from excel file to the database table. CSV file format has become a general format while loading the data, as it is understood by a number of software programs.

But Microsoft Excel itself has limitations. Excel 2003 has a limitation of 65,536 rows and Excel 2007 has a limitation of 1,048,576 rows. Sometimes you get such a large csv that it is difficult to open them. In such cases CSV Splitter proves to be handy application. You can split large CSV file into smaller csv file with a click of a button.

Steps to divide or split  large csv file into multiple files.

·         Download: csv-splitter-1.1.zip. Extract it using winzip and double click exe file to open.

·         Fill up the details as instructed below-

CSV file: Select the CSV  file that you want to split.

Number of lines: Enter the maximum number of lines/rows in each splitted piece.

Max Pieces: Enter any number to limit the number of output files. ’0′ is unlimited.

·         Click “Split Now!”, and that’s it. You can find the splitted pieces in the a new folder of the same directory of the CSV file.

Note – To run the utility you need to install the Microsoft .net Framework 1.1.
