DAA (Direct Access Archive) is a disk image file and is a proprietary file format by PowerISO Computing. It supports features like password protection, compression and splitting the file into multiple files of smaller size. Compression features allows you to burn more content on CD or DVD and saves a lots of space if you are storing the file in your computer drive. *.DAA files are similar to the files that are on any movie or software CD or DVD.
How to Open or Play .daa files?
Below are the simple ways of opening or playing .daa files for Linux, Windows or Mac OS X users.
Windows
Method# 1 – PowerISO
It is a image file processing tool for CD or DVD, using which you can open, extract, create, edit, compress, encrypt, split or convert ISO, CDI, BIN, NRG, DAA files, and mount these files with internal virtual drive. It is not freeware and its trial version only supports converting images from DAA files up to 300MB external link less than half of the capacity of a standard CD.

Method# 2 – DAA2ISO
It is an open source command line application that converts DAA files to ISO files. It is a stand-alone program, so all you need to have is just DAA2ISO.EXE and you can place it everywhere you want on your computer.
- Download daa2iso. This file contains a zip file with source code and a Windows binary.
- Extract to any location of your computer drive.
- Double click to run the .exe file and the tool will open a DOS-like window which contains all the needed information about the status of conversion, then choose the input DAA file you want to convert and subsequently the name of the ISO file you want to create.
Note - The tool automatically supports multipart files so it’s enough that you select only the first one (for example file.part01.daa).
- Burn the resulting ISO image to DVD using Windows ImgBurn or you can unpack the ISO image using Windows IZArc freeware to extract the original files from DAA archive.
If you want to convert daa to ISO using command line follow the steps below –
1. Download and extract daa2iso in C drive of your computer.
2. Open command prompt (in Windows Start -> Run -> cmd and in Vista navigate to search box and enter cmd).
3. Type the following – c:\> daa2iso filename.part01.daa output.iso
4. Please change the filename as in your DAA archive. It should point Luigi’s dvd2iso to the *first* file in your DAA archive
5. Hit enter. This will convert single or multi-part DAA files to a single ISO.
6. Burn the resulting ISO image to DVD using Windows ImgBurn
Linux
Method# 1 – PowerISO
For Linux users, PowerISO provides a free utility to extract and convert image files of ISO, BIN, DAA, et cetera. Download page for PowerISO-1.1.tar.gz.
Method# 2 – AcetoneISO2

Mac OS X
Method# 1 – DAA Converter
Using DAA Converter you can easily access the contents of a DAA image file by converting it to ISO disk image format. The converted ISO disk image can be mounted as a readable volume on your Mac by double-clicking it. It will run on Mac OS X 10.3 Panther or later. DAA Converter for Mac OS X is a freeware. Method# 2 – DAA2ISO
Follow the simple steps below to convert daa files to ISO in Mac OS X.
- Download daa2iso converter. To generate the DAA2ISO executable, compile the source code using ‘make’.
- For installation type ‘make install’ or just copy the executable where you want since it’s the only file you need.
- Now, just specify the input file and the ISO file you want to create like the following example:
daa2iso “my file.daa” output.iso
or
daa2iso “my file.part01.daa” output.iso
Note - Popular disk image mounting applications like as Alcohol 120% and DAEMON Tools currently do not support the mounting of DAA images.
