How to open a docx, xslx, pptx files ?

Well i have installed MS Office 2007 at home and my office laptop supports MS Office 2003.One day i was working on my personnel laptop and transferred one word file to my gmail account. The next day i downloaded the file to my office laptop that supported MS Office 2003.The file i downloaded had an extension .docx.When i opened it did not opened in a readable format. I tried many ways but all in vein. I thought i might have uploaded incorrectly. I cam back to my home. I downloaded the same file from my gmail account to my personnel laptop and amazingly it opened without throwing any error because it had MS Office 2007.Now i started troubleshooting the problem and found a solution of how we can open *.docx files on MS Office 2002/2003.

Well to start with let me tell you what exactly is Docx extension.Docx is the file extension of Microsoft Word 2007 documents. But it does not mean that you can only open docx files with Office 2007. Microsoft has made available the Office Compatibility pack, which enables you not only to open but also to edit Microsoft Office files (docx, xslx, pptx) using previous Office versions (2000 and above) and viewers.

Many of you don’t have rights to install new software in your PC, or if using a public computer that doesn’t run Microsoft office, you might want to look into Zamzar, an easy-to-use web based file conversion service, that will allow you to open docx files.
