How to Jailbreak iPhone & iPod Touch (iPhone OS 3.1.2) with BlackRa1n

Recently, Geohot released Blackra1n to jailbreak iPhone and iPod Touch with iPhone OS 3.1.2 within seconds. The jailbreak tool has been developed for windows users. We might see the Mac version soon. With Blackra1n you can also jailbreak iPod Touch 3 (ipt3), but the ipt3 is tethered. It is important to note that blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate your iPhone which means that if you are not on an official Apple approved carrier BlackRa1n cannot activate it. Follow the simple steps below to jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.2 firmware with blackra1n.

 

Warning - iPhone and iPod Touch users with unlocked iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS, should not upgrade to iPhone OS 3.1.2 using iTunes as they will lose unlock because baseband cannot be downgraded. Instead use PwnageTool to update to 3.1 without updating baseband.

 

Steps to Jailbreak iPhone OS 3.1.2 firmware with blackra1n

Step 1- Connect your iPhone or iPod is to the computer

Step 2- Download blackra1n to your computer desktop and then double click the blackra1n executable file to start the program.

Step 3- A pop-up window will appear with make it ra1n button. Click on ‘make it ra1n’ button.

Step 4- Automatically your iPhone or iPod Touch will be placed in recovery mode.

Step 5- blackra1n in running in background and then your iPhone will reboot.

Step 6- After reboot process is completed your iPhone is jailbroken and you will notice a blackra1n icon on the desktop.

Step 7- Click the blackRa1n icon to launch the application (internet connectivity is must to complete the process).

Step 8- Select Cydia and then press the Install button at the top right of the screen to download and install the package you selected.

Step 9- You will notice Cydia icon on iPhone springboard. Your iPhone with iPhone OS 3.1.2 firmware installed is now jailbreaked.

    i was down loading /installing Cydia, when some one called me, the cydia ad Rock apps appear on my iPhone but when i click on them they do nothing. i htough maybe i would need to delete the Blackra1n so i deleted that yet still nothing happens ... how do i delete cydian and Rock and redo it. because if i try install Blackra1n again it just sits at done waiting for reboot but blackra1n does not appear on my iphone.... PLEASE PLEASE HELP

    ive downloaded the program but the ipod is doing nothing that you said it would expect for the recovery mode but nothing else and when i do itunes shows up and says that i need to restore my ipod so it can work with it and when itunes doesnt show up it takes hours and still doesnt work so what should i do

    I've followed all of the instructions and nothing is happening. My phone goes through all of steps and reboots. However, even after the Geohot screen, my phone is still NOT jailbroken.

    After having tons of problems with this on my iPhone 3G on 3.1.2 I decided to try again. Maybe this is the key: turn your phone completely off and THEN click make it rain.
    IT JUST WORKED FOR ME AFTER TRYING SO MANY DIFFERENT THINGS.
    What I did (Step by step. Hope this helps):
    1) Restore pHone to 3.1.2 (WARNING!!!! Don't do this if you want to keep your software unlock on the iPhone!!! In this case you should not use blackra1n. You will need to use PwnageTool instead, which preserves your baseband and helps you update without loosing your unlock)
    2) Close iTunes and turn off phone like normal.
    3) Open blackra1n and click ‘make it ra1n’
    4) Connect your iPhone to your computer
    5) Hold the power button and immediately after, also hold the home button.
    6) Keep holding both buttons until you see the apple logo then release just the power button while continuing to hold the home button.
    7) Keep holding the home button until you see the geohot background then you can let go. It took about 2-3 seconds for it to go from the connect to iTunes screen to the geohot background.
    8) Wait for reboot
    9) Enjoy!

    I have iPhone 3g with os 3.1.2 bb 5.11.07, i am stuck at the mesages in blackra1n saying “running”. nothing happens in after that.

    Ipod touch, 3.12 will finishes jailbreak but will not power back on. I jailbroke a 3.12 iphone with no issues? So you know what is causing the touch not to power back on? ITunes sees it in recovery mode when I plug it in?
