Google Gears to enable offline Gmail?

Gmail has a huge success story. It arrived on April 1, 2004 with a bang offering numerous services –One gigabyte of free, permanent, online e-mail storage. Initially the service was available by invitation only and you have to refer your friend if your friend wants to make use of it. In less than three years since, Gmail has expanded to tens of millions of users, opened up free registration globally, POP3 access and expanded individual mailboxes to 2.8+ GB of capacity. You may call it a huge success story.

Google is now introducing an open-source technology for building web applications that continue to work even after a user’s internet connection is disabled. Sound impossible? Naaahh…to me it’s really sounds great.
Google Gears is a tool that will make it possible. First you have to download the google gears extension, after downloading the Gears browser extension, users will be able to view content in their web browsers via Google Reader even when they’re not connected to the internet. But you will not be able to update any of your content, it can only be updated when they are connected. Google is also adding offline functionality to Google Reader, a free service that provides a feed to users’ favorite news sites and blogs.

Offline use of Google Reader might appeal to people on long airplane rides. Even I am a frequent flyer but the unavailability of the internet in flights increases my work as I am not able to work on my pending task. If this would be a possible solution then I can prioritize and plan my tasks sitting in flight itself. It will save my time to a greater extent. Google Gears will work in multiple browsers like mozilla,IE,et cetera.
