Download,Extract or Rip any Online Video and Convert it in any Video Format

Till now we used to search for tools that can extract or rip the online videos, music videos, images for free and then search again for converters that can convert the videos from one format to another. This two step process is time consuming and very annoying as well.

DownloadHelper is a tool to extract the web content like video and image files from many sites like youtube, MySpace, Google videos, DailyMotion, Porkolt, iFilm, DreamHost et cetera. You can even convert the downloaded movies to your preferred video format.

DownloadHelper automatically detects the videos and the icon gets animated and a menu allows you to download files by simply clicking an item. Whenever you visit any page that contains links to images, videos or movies, you can download them easily. Just move the mouse over the items in the menu. It will highlight the available links directly in the page. Click them to download to your computer.

You can download files one by one or all of them in one go. It is recommended to download the files one by one to minimize bandwidth usage so that you can browse other websites side by side.

Prerequisite-

Install Firefox browser if you are using other internet browsers like IE. DownloadHelper only works with firefox.

How to use DownloadHelper?

• Visit DownloadHelper page in firefox browser and install it. Restart the firefox to complete the installation.
• Navigate to Tools -> Add-ons and select DownloadHelper.
• Click the Options Button. You will notice the following screenshot which is self explanatory. Let’s navigate to all the tabs one by one. I will only be touching upon important options under those tabs- 

General

• Select the Download Mode one by one. This will make sure that your internet bandwidth is available to run other programs as well.
• Change the download directory by clicking the button as shown.
• You can optionally assign the hotkeys that fits with your comfort.

Youtube

• Check the option ‘Preserve Youtube Filenames’ if you do not want the file names to be changed. 

MediaLink

MediaLink method allows you to download files from page by looking at HTML Links.

• Check the option ‘Preserve Youtube Filenames’ if you do not want the file names to be changed. You must check the option ‘MediaLink Enabled’.
• Once checked you will notice the types of file that will be available for download. By default you can download media files like – jpg, jpeg, gif, png, mpg, mpeg, avi, rm, mp3, wmv, mov and flv. You can add the other format of file in the list. Suppose you want the tool to detect the flac files then add flac and click the add button to include it in the list. The tool is flexible enough to customize the list.

Conversion

This feature lets you to convert the videos automatically as soon as they are downloaded. For example if you want youtube video to be converted to iPhone supported format then you need to change the settings. Let’s understand how it can be done.

• Check the option ‘Conversion enabled’ if you want to convert the video files. By default all the video files are downloaded into wmv format. You can define your own conversion rules.

• To define a new rule just click on ‘New Rule’ button. Conversion Rule window will open.

• Select the input file (flv, avi, wmv, mpeg, mpg, rm, mov, ALL) as shown in image below.

• Select the output file (wmv, mpeg, iPhone, iPod, avi, mpeg-4, mp3, MPEG-2 DVD (PAL), MPEG-2 DVD (NTSC)) as shown in image below.

• Select the Detail Button to change the advanced output settings like- Bit rate, frame rate, frame size, frequency, et cetera. I would recommend not changing the advance settings for output file.
