Greenshot-Free Screen Capture Tool

Previously, I have discussed about 25 Tools to Capture Screenshots for Free. Greenshot is another smart open source, and portable screen capture utility which is very light and easy to use. With Greenshot you can save a screenshot or a part of the screen to a file within a second. Text and shapes including rectangles, circles, and text boxes can also be added to the screenshot. A unique feature lets you select an element within the picture and resize it, move it, copy it, cut it, or delete it.

How to take screenshots with Greenshot?

Step 01 – Download Greenshot and install it.

Step 02 – Once installed open Greenshot. You will notice a green frog icon on right side of your systems tray (just beside computer clock).

Step 03 – Right click on the greenshot icon and you will find 4 options – Region, Last Region, Window or Full Screen. Select any one of it to capture screen.

Step 04 – Once you take the screenshot the screenshot will open in Greenshot editor automatically where you can annotate the image.

Greenshot Settings

Right click on the greenshot icon and click on ‘Preferences’. A following setting window will pop-up. The output file can be customized in number of ways-

1. Filename can be changed
2. Select the image format – PNG, jpeg, bmp or Gif.

Other options are self explanatory in the screenshot. The missing feature in Greenshot is the unavailability of ‘Delay Capture’ which is very useful and almost all free screen capture tools are providing.
