You can easily extract your favorite song from the DVD (VOB files) or VCD (DAT files) and save it as mp3 using DVD MP3 Ripper which is a freeware and uses high quality libraries to encode MP3. You can extract audio from DVD movie files (*.vob), VCD/SVCD movie files (*.dat) and MPEG (MPEG-1, MPEG-2) files (*.mpeg, *.mpg) into MP3 which can be played on any electronic device that supports mp3.
Download The free application from Jodix or dvd-mp3 website. Run the .exe file and open the DVD file from where you want to rip your favorite song. Just select the portion of Audio to be extracted and hit the “Rip” button. Once ripped you will get the pop-up window confirming that the mp3 has been extracted successfully.

DVD movies files are stored in on a DVD video disc as VOB files. VOB files contain multiplexed Dolby Digital audio and MPEG-2 video. VOB files on a DVD are numbered as -vts_XX_y.vob where XX represents the title and Y the part of the title. There can be 99 titles and 10 parts, although vts_XX_0.vob does not contain any video, usually just menu or navigational information. You can find them on a DVD video disc in a subdirectory labelled VIDEO_TS (all upper case).

While opening a DVD Movie file, You may get the message “The source file can NOT be opened”. To solve the problem, you need to download and install K-Lite Mega Codec Pack. The latest version can be downloaded from http://www.freecodecs.com/download/K_Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack.htm or http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/mirror.htm.

You can also use audio extractor that works in a similar fashion. With AoA Audio Extractor, you can easily extract audio tracks from AVI, MPEG, MPG, FLV (Flash Video), DAT, WMV, MOV, MP4, 3GP video files and save them as MP3, WAV and AC3 formats.
