Purplera1n (beta) tool to Jailbreak iPhone 3G S running 3.0 firmware has been released and is available for download. GeoHot, the author of Purplera1n tool was able to successfully insert a custom command to iBoot to bypass sign-checks. Currently, Purplera1n supports all versions of Windows except Windows 7. Mac version will be introduced shortly.
It seems that ‘cat and mouse’ game have been started between iPhone Dev Team and GeoHot. This week we already report that Dev Team has decided not to release the JailBreak for iPhone 3GS until iPhone OS 3.0.1 firmware is out. If JailBreak for iPhone 3GS is released now then Apple is expected to release iPhone OS 3.0.1 firmware soon to block ultrasn0w and the iboot exploit. [read full story..]
On the other hand, George Hotz or GeoHot, the author of the Purplera1n tool says –
“…Guys, whats up with waiting until 3.1? That isn’t how the game is played. We release, Apple fixes, we find new holes. It isn’t worth waiting because you might have the ‘last’ hole in the iPhone. What last hole… this isn’t golf. I’ll find a new one next week. Also your purplera1nyday files ensure that you can always get back to a jailbroken state, so if you have it it’s just a matter of tools.”
With purplera1n there is always a possibility to get back to a jailbroken state, if the apple updates its baseband to fix the jailbreak. Once that you’ve got your jailbreak done, you can then use the ultrasn0w utility from Cydia to unlock your iPhone 3GS. You can also use redsn0w to unlock your iPhone 3G. If you are looking to unlock or jailbreak your iPhone 3G S you are advised not to upgrade to 3.1
