Recently, Yahoo deleted their pioneering free Web site Geocities, and millions of websites containing images or softwares hosted on geocities were vanished. Facebook is popular social networking site that is being used to store business contacts and acquaintances, images, notes and much more. What would you do if one day Facebook accidentally or intentionally delete your account? Never trust or think that your data is secure on a website or social networking sites. It’s up to you to archive or take the backup of your critical data lying on Facebook account.




ArchiveFacebook is a free tool that lets you save all your content from your Facebook account directly to your hard drive. You can easily archive your photos, messages, activity stream, friends list, notes, events, groups and your other stuff that has been recorded in Facebook. The archived Facebook content can then be viewed likewise you currently view them on Facebook.

How to use ArchiveFacebook?
Step 1- Download ArchiveFacebook, Install the add-on and restart Firefox. This will add an “ArchiveFB” menu option to Firefox.

Step 2- Log into your Facebook account.

Step 3- Select ArchiveFB –> Archive from the main menu. This will redirect you to your Facebook profile page. You will be prompted with a dialog box telling you that your activity stream will be expanded. If you press “Cancel” the archiving process will be completely cancelled. If you press “Ok”, your activity stream will display all the activities on Facebook since your account creation.

Step 4- Once the retrieval of your activity stream has completed, the archiving process will begin. You will see a window that says “Capture” on it. This window drives the archive process. It will take several minutes to an hour to archive your account depending upon the content to be archived of your facebook account.

Step 5- When the archiving has completed, you will see a “Facebook” menu option added to the ArchiveFB menu. Select this option to view your archived Facebook account.

How to Browse the Archived Facebook content?
Once you see your Facebook profile page appear, you will notice an annotation bar at the bottom that can be used for highlighting text or making comments on a page for personal records. All facebook pages listed in the introduction should be archived. To validate just place your cursor over a link and look in the bottom left hand corner and Firefox will show the location of the link i.e. if the location starts with “file://”, it is on your hard drive, if it starts with “http://”, it is on the web. If it is not on your local hard drive, try to archive your account again.

Note - Works with Firefox: 3.5 and above.
