Recently, I received a scanned copy of an important document which I was asked to re-type into MS Word. I was watching Oscar Winner “Slumdog Millionaire” and wanted to avoid retyping the document. I searched in google to find if there is any free solution that can extract text from scanned documents.
I found several commercial OCR software solutions ($100 – $500) available to convert scanned images to text, Word, HTML or searchable PDF. But I did not wanted to spend a single penny. Finally I found one free OCR (Windows OS) that converts your scanned images to text files or Word documents for free. It is SimpleOCR–the only OCR (Optical Character Recognition) application that is completely free.
