The Five iPhone Applications I can’t Live Without

| More

Wow, the iPhone has actually changed the way I do business and talk with my friends and family. To be honest, at times I would rather post a Facebook message or send a text message more than I would want to actually call them. It just seems so ideal for them to get the message when it is convenient for them rather than disturbing them at dinner or while they are trying to take a nap. Still though, I have lots of other things I do with my iPhone, but these are the top five applications that I use most often.

1: Fring

As mentioned above, I enjoy contacting people via my iPhone. But still, there are numerous services available out there. I don’t want to have a different app for every little different application or chatting software out there. Plus, some of my clients use different things. I have one that uses AIM, while a handful use Google Talk, and several overseas clients will use MSN Messenger. Fring combines all of that so that I have access to everything in one central location. No need to have different applications for all of these!

2: Yelp

I have used this application several times. There have been several times where I’m out with the friends and we want to stop somewhere to get some drinks or grab a bite to eat. But what happens if you don’t know what’s around? Since I travel a lot this seems to be frequent. Yelp comes in handy by being able to determine what the good bars are around or the restaurants that are available. This is good so that you aren’t stuck to eating McDonalds for breakfast, lunch, and dinner because it is the only place you can see from your hotel window. Generally, within a few minutes you will have some good restaurants to eat at!

3: City Transit

Listen, I don’t live in NYC, and even if I did, I would probably still have this app. But City Transit is a great way to see all of the subway system throughout the city. You will be able to keep track of time when the trains are coming, etc. It has been a life saver when it comes to trying to find out how to get from one place to another!

4: Shazam

I use my iPhone to listen to most of my music. But sometimes I’ll be out on the town and hear a new cool song that I haven’t heard before. I don’t know the name or who sings it. This little gadget here you just turn on, let it listen for itself, within a few minutes you might be able to determine who plays the song, download it via iTunes and have it playing for you on the way home. I’ve used this numerous times and I’m absolutely astonished by its accuracy. Keep in mind if your humming, you better have the right notes though!

5: i.TV

Being a traveler a lot of the time throughout the year, there is nothing more annoying than trying to determine what is on TV from the hotel room. They have those channels with the scrolling channel guide. The problem though is that the thing moves so slow and there are so many useless channels on the television these days that it takes an hour just to find anything that sounds remotely interesting. With i.TV guide, I just open up the application and within minutes I’ll know what’s on and what looks good. I can go through it at my own pace, which is typically pretty fast! I also think it is interesting that it works with Netflix to work with your queue management if you are at home.
