Prepare the workstation to be protected from malicious intruders.- Always apply the latest operating system security updates and service packs.
- Install and run the AntiVirus application with the latest signatures.
- Schedule to run an automatic weekly scan. Always observe the results, and remember to never turn the AntiVirus program off.
- Install and run the Firewall with the latest security signatures. Leave the settings on the highest security level, and never turn off the firewall.
- Scan the system for spyware.
- Protect the workstation with strong passwords. Use a minimum of 8 alpha-numeric-special characters.
- Set a secure password for your hard disks, and set a power-on and screensaver password.
- Do not run any Peer to Peer software, such as KaZaa, Morpheus, and so on. Do not install any other non-standard software on your machine.
- Do not use virus infected USB drives/pen drives/zip drives.Before downloading any file from internet always do a virus scan.
